Lahat tayo ay nakaranas nang umibig. Pinalad man o nabigo ang mahalaga’y naranasan natin ang magmahal. Isa ito sa mga dahilan kung bakit para sa akin ay masarap at makulay ang buhay. Marahil ay magugulat ang mga nakakakilala sa akin sapagkat binuksan ko ngayon ang isang personal na bahagi ng aking buhay.

Sa unang pagkikita palang natin magaan na agad ang loob ko sa iyo. Maputi, singkit ang mata, mahaba ang buhok at palaging may ngiti sa labi. Unang araw ng pasukan nun at dahil sa transferee ka sa aming section (III-St. Joseph) eh ikaw ang usap-usapan sa room natin. Mabilis mo namang nakapalagayan ng loob ang lahat. Isa ka rin sa magagaling sa klase at kelan man ay hindi ko naramdaman na magkalaban tayo sa honor. Madalas kung ako ay lumiban ay pumupunta ka sa aming bahay pag-uwian upang ipahiram ang notebook mo para malaman ko ang mga aralin natin. Madali mong nakasundo ang aking mga magulang at kapatid.

Alam kong nagdamdam ka ng malaman mong naging kami ng iyong kaibigan . Ngunit sa kabila ng lahat ng iyon ay ganun parin ang pakikitungo mo sa akin. Nagpupunta ka parin sa amin kapag ako ay absent sa klase. Magiliw ang pakikitungo sa iyo ng aking pamilya. “Kamusta na si Mary Jane?” ang laging tanong nila. Madalas din nila akong tuksuhin pag-uwi ko sa bahay matapos kang ihatid sa sakayan kapag ikaw ay nagpupunta. Yun ang dahilan kung bakit hindi kita niligawan. Ayaw ko kasi na tinutukso ako sa isang tao. Naiisip ko kasi na baka akalain mong nabuyo lang ako at yun ang ayaw kong mangyari.

Magkaiba tayo ng kursong kinuha kaya’t magkaiba ang ating eskwelahan. Magkagayun man dumadalaw ka parin hanggang nung 2nd year college natin. Dun ipangako ko sa aking sarili na magsusumikap ako sa pag-aaral upang makapagtapos agad at isa-isang tuparin ang aking mga mithiin at ipagtapat sa iyo ang aking saloobin. Nangarap ako ng isang bukas na kasama ka. Patuloy pa rin akong nakikibalita sa iba nating mga kaibiigan tungkol sa iyo. Labis ang aking kagalakan ng ako ay makapagtapos sapagkat maisasakatuparan ko na rin ang pagsuyo sa iyo. Ngunit sadya yatang mapaglaro ang tadhana. Nabalitaan ko na lamang na ikaw ay nakapag-asawa na ng taon ring iyon.

Dalaw

“Ano ang nasa dako pa roon,

Bunga ng malikot na pag-iisip,

Likha ng balintataw o halaw

mula sa daigdig ng kababalaghan,

‘di kayang ipaliwanag,

Ngunit alam mong magaganap.”

Kaninang 12 am nagising ako sa isang malamig na haplos sa aking paanan. Pagmulat ng aking mata nakita ko ang isang hindi inaasahang panauhin. Matagal na rin namang panahon ang lumipas mula ng huli ko syang makita.

Kahit simula ng pagkabata ay madalas ko na silang makita, hindi pa rin maalis sa akin ang pagkagulat sa minsang biglaang pagsulpot nila sa aking paningin. Sa mahigit 30 taon na kasama namin sila sa aming bahay bibihira lang silang makita ng aking mga kapatid at magulang. Madalas ay nagpaparamdam lamang sila gaya ng pagkurot, pagtago ng ilang mga bagay o kaya ang pagsitsit.

Hindi naman sila mga bayolenteng elemento. Kadalasan pagwalang maiiwan sa bahay ay sa kanila ipinakikiusap ng aking ina ang pagbabatay sa aming tirahan. Sinabi kasi sa amin ng isang albularyo na ang aming bahay ay nakatayo sa lagusan ng mga ibang nilalang. Ilan lamang sa mga kaganapan sa amin ay ang lumulutang na kumot o kaya naman ay ang pag-uga nila ng aking higaan kapag ibig nilang magpapansin. Ang hindi ko malilimutan ay minsang bumaba ako ng bahay ng 2am at makita ko ang isang pares ng mga paa lamang na naglalakad papalapit sa akin. Dali-dali akong tumakbo paakyat ng bahay ang sumiksik sa gitna ng aking mga magulang na mahimbing na natutulog. Ang isa namang kaluluwa na aking nakita sa aming kwarto ay walang mukha ngunit ang kanyang mukha ay singliwanag ng bwan kapag ito ay nasa kabilugan.

Mula sa pagkakatalikod ng aking bisita makikita na matanda na sya ngunit sa pagharap nya ay biglang bumata ang kanyang anyo. Maganda, mahaba ang buhok, maputi at nakalutang sa hangin habang nakangiting nakatingin sa akin. Wala akong maisip na sasabihin sa kanya at ganun din naman sya. Marahil ay ganun pa rin naman ang aking magiging reaksyon gaya ng una naming pagkikita kung saan binalot ako ng takot at wala akong maunawaan sa kanyang mga sinasabi kaya minabuti na lamang niyang manahimik. Hindi rin nagtagal at bigla na lamang syang naglaho sa aking harapan.

A New Chapter Begins

I guess another year will be added to my personal information. Looking back for the past 36 years, I am a bit confused if I did live-up to the dreams I had:

At the age of 7, I dreamed of a simple and quiet life. But as I grow older, I learned that life is complicated;

At 12, when somebody asks me what I want to be when I grow up I eagerly answered it that I wanted to become a medical doctor. My parents told me that I will not be able to finish my studies if I will pursue being a doctor;

After graduating from high school I wanted to enter the seminary to become a priest. My parents are expecting me to continue our lineage since it is my obligation to do so being the only son in the family;

I was 21 when I dreamed of having a family of my own at the age of 25. I thought it is the right age to marry and have kids of my own since I will financially stable by that time;

At 30, I dreamed of having my own school by 35 so that I will have my own time to manage and a business to attend to;

I’m beginning to ask myself at 35 if will be able to fulfill at least two of my dreams – having a family of my own and a school to manage;

Now at 37, I am just enjoying what is life will offer to me. Because if success can be measured according to the number of dreams you have realized then, I’m such a BIG LOSSER (lol).
